an images from friends who put the stickers

from Alejandro Turell, Uruguay

Dear Muliana Bayak,

I attach the photo in the place where i put the sticker. This photo was taken in my house/studio. May be sounds a little wear for you but...in my Country (Uruguay) all the people drink mate tee everywhere so i can go with your sticker holding my thermos (to exhibitions, to teach at the University, to the Stadium to see soccer, to the market...) and explain to people here when they ask me about this pacific and in a same way strong Battle of INDONESIAN... your ideas. In the past here we was lived a Dictatorial period (1973-1985), i grow up silenced... and i remember very well that the citizens used the thermos or "la matera" (a special bag to carry the mate-thermo equipment) also to communicate by stickers their ideas of freedom, human rights, politic ideas, ... against the totalitarianism.

Congratulations for your work!!!

if you see Heri Dono please send a hug also from this side of our World... from Montevideo, Uruguay,

Alejandro Turell

this work are as one of the work in Jogja Biennale Neo-Nation in 2007, now it selected for Mediations Bennale 2010 in Pozan, Polandia with Heri Dono, Achmad Gozali and me.

When this work done, I’m concerned with issues of nationalism, in which time many State assets sold into foreign hands, lot of Indonesian workers outside the country who receive inhuman treatment and even until someone dies. I am also pleased with the rock band Rage Against The Machine, where they continued to criticize the work of political issues, war, and global humanity.

With this work I wanted to convey how the Indonesian people we cultivate a sense of pride in our self, no longer willing to continue to be under foreign pressure or Indonesian people it self who want exploited by foreigners and selling his own country, we must make sure that the Indonesian nation and the people are

not more inferior to other nations. Many people still see strangers better than us, this is not an anti-attitude to foreigners, do we need to better understand each other to minimize something that was sacrificed, with this work can hopefully foster a more positive sense between peoples and nations.

The battle of Indonesian is one of a series of works about national pride, where the creation of such works is an outpouring of anxiety and at

titude on the issue that occurs when the work was done. Hopefully with the start of my self and do as much as possible to the social environment around us, one day this nation will become bigger and more confident.

Dania young progressive visual artist

I believe in this world there’s no death line accept death it self, if we try the best we can in this sort time of life with “weapons” that we have. I use arts as a “weapons” it mean if I am a visual artist, I will use my talent that I have to share with other using visual art as much as I can. If we are musicians, use your music to ch

ange the peoples point of view to start make a change. If we are a journalist, write the truth, express the real fact and criticism all the problems. So for all people with all their “weapons” we can make a change for better future for us and for our next generation.

Most people didn’t believe art can change the world but I believe we can change the world for be a better place with our “weapons”.

Bali 12.10.202, 80x50x30cm, mixed media 2010

it's long time this idea waiting and need to be visualize, but it's so hard to finish working on it, lot of ironic and “guilty” feeling to finish this work, but when I discuss with some friends, about how sensitive this issue? Does it will be bad feeling impact to the victims? For local and foreigner friends they support me to finish this. Without reducing the respect and sympathy to all of the victim and their families I made this art work.

The idea are about suicide bomb tragedy 12 October 2002 in Bali, it kill 202 peoples and 209 on serious wound.

It all about differences peoples on interpretation about their religious ideology and they use religion for their apatite to killing.

it all about politic or economic etc, it all blur in that situation and the more serious impact became latter after the tragedy, sweeping almost every where specially for the non Balinese, trauma for the family who their sons, wife or husband have killed, jobless etc..

Bali was the sign for the community should begin to realize that only rely on tourism in developing all aspects of community life is very fragile as a foothold. How agricultural lands that are sold out to change the golf course, shop, hotel and restaurant, hills and lakes into a row of villas, all see tourism as a wetland to collect a more dollars.

And when there is a bomb exploded in the crowded center of tourism in Bali as it all collapsed, until the joints social community that once considered solid eventually needs to review again.
Post-bomb Bali tragedy paradox of many events, how the ceremony performed a major cleanup around the scene of an accident which cost quite a bit, and there be seen how the Balinese culture which is always "fun" by sharing a recent religious ritual was "intentionally" in their execution in exaggerate again because it is proven to attract tourists. That disaster happened to be transformed into a tourist attraction, a memorial created tragedy happened as a "sign" a tragedy in itself and the edges become "the pose" in photo album memories when visiting Bali.

One that I am has questioning now, why a humanity tragedy in our political background in 1965 was never “celebrated”? Let’s not talk in the celebrating it, discussion on it will become a taboo for our society. Why? Because it no interest or attracting to tourism?

Variable Size, Mixed Media Sound Installation 2010

Contemporary art, a form of whatever creature it? Should we become a contemporary artist? Or are we really contemporary? art for some artists would still lay or dizziness headache even with this term especially to introduce to the public or the wider community. For most of the people of Bali's Visual art or paintings is an art that sell at art shops, at the art market or traditional painting with many different styles and of course that gives some people in certain areas of economic benefit, into work of art (painting) to order or sell the work of paintings in private-to keep the kitchen still steaming, they tend indifferent and unconcerned with the development of artistic discourse.

This work wants to look at the same time talking about the noisy roar like a whirlwind Indonesian art market the last two years where Realism is a visual art development of China passed the point of almost every artist barometer of Indonesia, a discourse that was almost (to say no) without a duel without appeal of our art infrastructure, all same with a servant paw to simply get the splash soot blessing art boom realistic without heavy themes, without seeing and reflecting sosiocultura phenomena surrounding, art that seem apathetic and extremely arrogant, pragmatic, practical depends on the high walls and sectional wall named gallery and the private room, with soaring prices incomparable to the price of death for a value of artwork. In fact almost all the art infrastructure and those who dare call themselves mapper, observers, or whatever his name in the universe is actually part of art to wallow in a vicious cycle that capitalistic art market with a walled pile of misleading quotes recently, a guide book as thick as hair on her pubic hair virgin and arguments justifying speech es.be.ye defensive style that all the actions he and his followers are true.

The Sounds Of frying pan into visual form the beginning of my babbling will be the situation of art today and be one of the work had been exhibited at my first solo exhibition, and this time I developed the idea, hoping for a target shooting a much more targeted than just a piece of goods "useless" in a corner of the studio. By using various media, such as finding items, so items from the factory / store, former toys part, wood, metal and electronic circuits that produce sounds, I wish I could hit with more context to be criticized.

I treat art as a "weapon" he directed as much as possible will aim to dissect every issue even within his own problems, the generic art that is similar to the capital markets, buy ... buy ... buy ... and buy as a way to work only to be sold and purchased and such as the offerings in front of bosses, was like fried, crunchy which can only be consumed on the spot, because if it is left for tomorrow will be felt tasteless too oily. His voice was too noisy like an empty barrel, deafening and not educate at all. Cheers

Note: This art work I applied for the Indonesian Art Award 2010 but I think the jurors won't be let it as one of the nomination, I think they are feel this work will slap directly on their face or kick their ass? we'll see.
